"Maybe I overreacted."
If that sentence has crossed your mind since they reached out again, please hear me on this. It's usually the echo of gaslighting, and now you're the one doing it to yourself.
I call it codependent amnesia. Your brain starts editing the past, so the good times get louder and the damage gets quieter. It tends to hit right when they've turned the charm back on, which is the most dangerous point in the whole cycle.
Missing what they got from you and missing you are two very different things. What a narcissist misses is feeding off your energy and your willingness to second-guess yourself.
