What Narcissists Do When You’re Too Tough to Control
Have you ever watched someone go from warm to ice cold the moment you stood your ground?
You stop over-explaining and say no like you mean it. Suddenly you're "too difficult," and the strength they used to admire becomes the very thing they can't stand about you.
Most of us take that reaction as evidence. We replay the conversation looking for what we did wrong, and we always manage to find something.
What's actually happening is far more predictable. When someone on the spectrum of destructive narcissism realizes the guilt and manipulation have stopped working, they change tactics, and it can get ugly. A lot of it happens behind your back, in conversations about you that you're not part of.
