For empaths, saying "no" is often accompanied by a heavy burden of guilt.  This stems from our innate desire to please others and maintain harmonious and peaceful relationships.  

So, for the empath, the primary shift is to begin to understand that setting boundaries and declining requests is a critical act of self-care and self-preservation.  

The truth is, there’s nothing to feel guilty about.  You are allowed to take care of yourself.  In fact, not only are you allowed, it is fully your responsibility.  No matter who likes it, or does not like it!

Resolving this guilt involves recognizing that self-care is NOT a selfish act but rather, a necessary one.  We have to learn to prioritize our own well-being and protect our time, energy, and resources.  

Furthermore, learning how to say a firm and clear "no" without feeling guilty can be a radical act of personal empowerment.  By accepting that we cannot always be ALL things to ALL people, we can start to uncover the freedom that comes with asserting our limits and boundaries.  

In doing so, we start to enjoy healthier relationships, increased self-respect, and a more balanced and peaceful life.
